DIARY I

It has been a month since I started my teaching practice and the truth is that I have already learned many new things.
First of all, it is a school where there is a lot of immigration (almost 90 percent of the students are immigrants), which means that there is a great variety of languages and cultures within the classroom. This is not a problem, although there are some students, who have recently arrived to the country and we can’t communicate with them through any language, and we have to do it with gestures.  This is also a learning for me, this is a fact that I will find in the future and it is good to start learning how to deal with it.
On the other hand, the fact that there are different cultures also affects when we have to make groups. There are many students who don’t want to make groups with students of the opposite sex, because for them it is incoherent and/or uncomfortable, so it is something that must also be worked on and make them see that this isn’t something wrong, that we are all partners and we are all equal.

On the other hand, this school works in a very peculiar way. On Fridays there is an hour of theoretical class, but the other days the topics are worked through games (online games, songs, word search, etc.).
I think it is a very good way for students to learn, since they do different things on the same topic every day and don't get bored. Thus, while they are having fun doing the activities they learn at the same time.
The truth is that I have seen students very motivated with this methodology and learning a lot. The only bad point I see is that they don’t work much speaking, because there isn’t much verbal interaction and they can fail that and the pronunciation.

Another observation that I have been able to make at the school is that they give much importance to English. Not so much for the hours that are dedicated to the language, but because in each class there are many instructions and many words written in English, which makes that students every day can fix and acquire that knowledge in an indirectly way.

Finally, I have to say that it is a school that wants to innovate, to do new things, to improve and work as well as possible, always positively influencing students. Three times a week teachers make meetings and projects and improvements are always proposed. This is something that as a future teacher motivate and like me, because I see their vocation for their students and to improve and it is something admirable.
